From the Mapex Black Panther Design Lab comes the aptly named Scorpion snare drum. At the heart of the Scorpion is its 8-ply (8.9mm) mahogany shell, which has a lovely dry and dark tone for ghost notes and lower-volume playing. Its Mapex Sonic Saver hoops provide tuning stability and, as you’ve probably inferred from the drum’s name, a seriously stinging rimshot. SONIClear bearing edges provide you with a wider tuning range and strong fundamental pitch. And finally, chrome hardware never goes out of style, topping off the Scorpion with an attractive appearance.

Mapex's precision 45-/35-degree SONIClear bearing edges allow heads to sit flatter, and thus make better contact with the shell. This results in better seating and a stronger, deeper fundamental. In our experience, just finger tightening heads was enough to make this snare sing. This widens the tuning range for players who like swampier tones while producing purer musical pitches in soprano registers.
